Uddokta Summit-2018 held at UAP

 

A 2-daylong Uddokta Summit-2018, jointly organised by University of Asia Pacific and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) was held in the university campus from 7-8 December 2018. The objective of the summit was to build awareness and create new ideas of entrepreneurship among Bangladeshi youth.

National Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of UAP inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest. While addressing the audience, he said that Bangladesh economy had reached a sustainable stage of development and the information-technology related products and services could help accelerate progress. Professor Choudhury also said, “We have to create skilled manpower; we need to create jobs for the growing population. New ideas and innovations, and creative entrepreneurship could be key factors in the country’s growth.”

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Kazi Aminul Islam said that there are around 25 lakh unemployed youth in Bangladesh who might be looking for jobs but they were unaware of the possibilities of creating new jobs as an entrepreneur.

Dr. Mohammed Alauddin, Sr. Vice-Chairman, Member, Board of Trustees (BOT) of UAP attended the summit as a Special Guest. Mr. Anhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Member, BOT, facilitated an interesting “Leadership Workshop.” Ms. Tashmeem Shayera Moyeen, Member, Board of Trustees, UAP attended a session titled “Exploring Personal Care Zone” where she suggested different ways to eradicate gender-related sigma from the society. Mr. Alamzeb Farjad Ahmed, Member, BOT, UAP along with Mr. G. Sumdany Don, a renowned Corporate facilitated a workshop titled “Finding Entrepreneurial Ability of the Students.”

Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW chaired the inaugural session and coordinated the events. Among others, the summit was also attended by Mr. Munir Hasan, Coordinator, Youth Programme, Prothom Alo and Founder, BdOSN; Mr. Mominul Islam, Managing Director & CEO, IPDC Finance Ltd.; Mr. Mostafizur Rahman, Project Director, a2i, Government of Bangladesh.

The two-day event comprised of 10 sessions, 4 workshops, 45 stalls to exhibit the products and services. Besides a large number of UAP students and faculty from various departments, the summit attracted over 500 potential entrepreneurs from across the country.
